About the Journal

International Journal of Victimology and Restorative Justice

The issue of violation of rights is gaining in social and world magnitude, while serious loss of life, dignity and humanized conditions of existence is being witnessed. The pains are many. They are collective pains, at a time when cyclical and structural problems are producing new victims. Societies have organized efforts to compose confrontations against victimizations that spread like a lethal virus. The immense challenges highlight institutional, ethical-legal and technical-professional weaknesses. And to change this picture, all of us, researchers, intellectuals, jurists, managers, professionals and activists, defenders of human rights, are unavoidably summoned.

The International Journal of Victimology and Restorative Justice, is born out of this indignation and will to act in the face of this wave of insecurity, inhumanity and recurrent victimization. Under one of the branches of the Brazilian Institute of Attention and Support to Victims, it intends to promote, in a transdisciplinary character, studies, research, discussions and campaigns about the rights of victims, the prevention of victimization, especially of vulnerable groups, the forms of divertimization, reparation of damages and restoration of the violated dignity of victims. In this sense, anchored in ethical values, in the primacy of the law and protection of victims and in the high critical and scientific rigor, the intention is to contribute with a potent production of knowledge, directed towards the change of this reality.

The journal accepts contributions that identify with these values and directions, cemented in studies, research and consistent analyzes, aimed at guiding and promoting reflections, agendas and processes that have freedom, equality, solidarity, protection and effective social justice, as mechanisms to guarantee rights, at the national and international levels.

The magazine, based online, will receive the works in continuous flow and will be housed in the OJS platform. The articles will be received in the Portuguese, Spanish, English, French and Italian languages, which will be assessed according to the blind and peer-review system, aiming at openly interdisciplinary fields of knowledge, towards the desired qualification. The editorial board of internationally recognized experts, the qualification of the evaluators and the expected authors are responsible for the contribution of the Journal to society.

The International Journal of Victimology and Restorative Justice presents its special issue dedicated to women’s rights, reinforcing its commitment to the promotion of gender equality and protection against all forms of violence. This volume brings together original articles that address central themes for understanding and advancing women’s rights in the contemporary context.

Among the highlights are studies on domestic and family violence, femicide, moral and sexual harassment, as well as analyses of the application of restorative justice in cases involving women victims of violence. The issue also discusses public policies aimed at preventing gender-based violence, protection mechanisms established in national and international legislation, and the challenges of ensuring the effective implementation of the Maria da Penha Law.

Another relevant aspect is the intersectional approach, which considers how race, class, age, and other vulnerabilities impact the experiences of women victims. The articles offer reflections on the importance of human rights education, strategies for women’s empowerment, and the role of institutions in promoting a culture of peace.

The thematic diversity and scientific rigor of this special issue reaffirm the need for comprehensive protection of women’s rights, contributing to the maturation of policies to combat violence and to the construction of a more just and equal society.
