Abstract

This article investigates the potential benefits of medicinal cannabis use in the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with a particular focus on its efficacy in improving behavior and reducing seizures in patients with treatment-resistant epilepsy, a condition often associated with ASD. There is a need for further scientific studies to enhance the understanding of the therapeutic application of cannabis, which is common for new treatments, as well as to overcome the challenges posed by current Brazilian regulations. The evidence points to a paradox where, despite advancements in understanding the mechanisms by which cannabis may benefit individuals with ASD, legal barriers limit access and research. The article emphasizes the importance of considering the legal and ethical implications of medicinal cannabis use, suggesting a reflection on current health policies and the need to align therapeutic practices with the most recent scientific evidence.
