In this article we will try to discuss the evolution of the role of the victim in Portuguese criminal law andprocedure, from a mere “object” to a procedural subject endowed with a vast set of rights and the compatibility
of a system still centered on the State – defendant relationship (defense guarantees ) with the affirmation
of a principle of presumption of victimization.
