Jusmusical Analysis of the Song “Sabor de Mel”:
The God of Retributive Justice

This article conducts a legal-musical analysis of the gospel song "Sabor de Mel", performed by Damares, with the aim of identifying the perspective on justice that the song conveys. The methodology employed includes the legal-literary practice, which explores how law is reflected in cultural elements and draws on ethnographic studies; the phenomenological practice, which investigates law within everyday phenomena; and the textual interpretation technique known as the "unsaid", which examines what is implicit in discourses. The study departs from the premise that music plays a crucial role both in the preservation of community identities and in shaping a group's vision of the divine, which in turn influences its understanding of justice. The article also addresses the intersections between music and law, highlighting how each field deals with conflict in distinct ways. The research further explores the concept of gospel music and the factors that have contributed to the commercial growth of this genre in Brazil. The conclusion reveals that the song analyzed expresses a vision of justice centered on revenge, blame attribution, retribution, and punishment, rather than promoting the restoration of relationships.
