Abstract

Violence against women is a complex social phenomenon and a harsh reality in Brazil, representing a social scourge of alarming proportions. It manifests in various forms of aggression, including physical, psychological, sexual, and economic violence. This type of violence is deeply rooted in cultural norms inherited from the patriarchal structure established in Brazilian society. However, it is not solely a national issue, as it has long been recognized by international human rights organizations. In alignment with global efforts, Brazil has developed legal frameworks and policies aimed at combating gender-based violence, such as the Maria da Penha Law (Law No. 11.340/2006), which seeks to punish aggressors and provide protection tools for victims. This article presents an in-depth analysis of the strategies used to confront this endemic violence, advocating for the reeducation of society as a fundamental pillar for its prevention and eventual eradication. The discussion is grounded in an extensive literature review, supported by recent research data and legal milestones that focus on protecting women's rights.
